Exodus 3:11-19 “Exodus – Who Is God”
Intro:
· Going to spend some time in the book of Exodus over the next few Sundays in a series we are calling Exodus.
· God has done some amazing things in this book, and I believe we will benefit from some of the powerful messages that this book has to offer.
· When someone asks you, who is God? What do you say? Who is God to you?
· I want you to know, that there is only one God, and we call him Jesus.
· Now, I believe that everyone will hear from God in their life at least once. That he will speak to them, and they have to make a choice, make a decision to respond.
· It is in that response that we either begin a relationship with the Lord, or we walk away from him.
· Today, we look at a passage where Moses had an encounter with God
[Read Scripture]
· Now, when you look at the world today, I believe many of us can relate to the Israelites.
· In bondage (to debt, to work, to hard and hateful employers)
· Looking for deliverance (that opportunity to escape, try many different ways extra jobs, side hustles, lottery, stock market, or our own business)
· The only one who can deliver us is God, so people cry out to him, but they don’t know who it is they are calling on.
· Well, I want you to know that you can know God, he knows you, and you can know him.
The Calling of God (vs 11)
· It is a “Personal” Call
o God will put a calling, a purpose, on every believer.
· It is a “Purposeful” Call
o We may not think that we are qualified to do what God has called us to do.
· It is a “Paramount” Call
o This is the most important call you can receive.
o Don’t miss this call or hang up on this call.
o When God calls us, it is not something we should question, but just trust and have faith.
The Commitment of God (vs 12)
Now there is a calling of God, but the next thing we see is the commitment of God.
Note God’s commitment is:
· Is Unfailing (Certainly I will be with thee)
o No matter the problem, the person, or the place, God is with us no matter what.
· Is Unmistakable (This shall be a token unto thee)
o The commitment of the Lord is unmistakable, you can see his hand on it.
· Is Unchanging (Ye shall serve God upon this mountain)
o God hasn’t change, God is committed to his people and will always be there for them.
The Confidence of God (vs 13-15)
· Moses had Concerns (13)
o We sometimes doubt God, who he is and what he has said. We want to know who he is.
· God brings Clarity (14)
o God is not some mystery, he is someone we can know. However, there are things about God we cannot comprehend.
§ I can’t comprehend how God is every where, but he is
§ I can’t comprehend how God can know everything, but he does
§ I can’t comprehend how God was able to speak into existence everything, but he did.
· God brings Confirmation (15)
o At the end of the day, all we have to do is look to the past and see what God has done in others lives, to know who he is.
The Connection of God (vs 16-18)
· By People
o We are connected to God when we come together
o Where 2 or 3 are gathered in my name I am in the midst of them – Matthew 18:20
· By Promise
o God makes a promise to his people here in verse 17
o God keeps his promises
o We are connected to God by a promise (I will never leave you nor forsake you)
· By Possession
o I am possessed!
o God lives in me.
o What are you sacrificing to God?
The Critics of God (vs 19)
· Scoff
o They want to deny who God is
· Stubborn
o They want to do things on their terms
· Sightless
o They refuse to see what God has and is doing
Do you want to know who God is? He is calling some today to be committed, others to be confident in him, some he showing you that you need to be connected. Don’t be critical of who He is, listen to his calling and be obedient.
